This is just a little thread to give us feedback on what Mario RPG style you guys like.
There's:

Mario and Luigi Style
Paper Mario Style
Mario RPG: The Legend of the Seven Stars Style.

Just post on which series of games you enjoyed and why. Then we'll see if we can incorporate those elements into our new game. For instance, I'm more of a Paper Mario guy, so if it was me, I would like to see Paper Mario enemies and a badge-based system. If I preferred Mario and Luigi I might ask for Mario/Luigi overworld skills or something like that.

Suggestions like that could also go into the the "What would you like to see in Mario XP" forum so here, we can mostly keep to which Mario RPG's you liked the best and why. This will help us know what majority we're appealing to.

I prefer Mario & Luigi style. At least when it comes to battles. The field is better as Paper Mario style.

The M&L games did have the best battle system. The PM system of being able to switch party members immediatly in field is sort of what I was referring to in the other thread, because it allowed for the developers to put in situations that need the use the specific abilities of particular party members to complete tasks. That isnt to say I'm asking for secondary party members trailing you around in the field; managing one character at a time is enough, from both a gameplay and development standpoint. I also personally liked how in SMRPG and PM it was necessary to decide on who you wanted to participate in the fight, due to the limits imposed upon max participants in a battle, 2 for PM and 3 for SMRPG. Also from BiS in particular, I liked having the giant bowser battles.
It's only about 6am and im still rather sleepy, so thats all I can think of atm.

I like how you can dodge and counterattack in M&L, but I also like the strategic elements in Paper Mario's battle system. (The variety of badges and the multiple partners)

SMRPG is pretty much inferior to both of them.

I too love the dodge/counterattack M&L system, but I was under the impression a system like that would be difficult to implement?

I love the Paper Mario field system (jumping, badges, partners, exploration, etc.) and the PM: TTDY guard system. (Superguard, regular guard, switching partners, scan, etc.)
I also love the Mario and Luigi field system (jumping, bro moves, etc.) and its battle system. (Bros moves, counterattack, dodging, etc.)
I've never even played Super Mario RPG: The Legend of the Seven Stars, so I don't know what it's like.

So in general, I like the Paper Mario and Mario and Luigi series.

Paper Mario: It did seem wonderful with the idea of timing things right, and using other buttons to finish the move, although it somehow seemed limited after a while...

Mario & Luigi: Excellent, you would have to watch your attack's scenario to make the move.

SMRPG: I dunno, maybe it did seem inferior, but with freebies it was at least an average.

Wow, that was quick. This gives us a great idea on what elements you all prefer mostly relating to battle.

Also, what about the presentation style of the games? Graphics? Dialogue style? (important). interesting enemies? (also pretty important).

For example, if you like PM i hope you enjoyed seeing the Koopa Bros. in Seven Sages. We tried to get the personality and "flashiness" correct.

Also, in Seven Sages Luigi spoke in a PM style. This time around, we don't plan on making Mario or Luigi speak in text like the Mario and Luigi series. However, we still plan on making only one hero (Mostly Mario) visible on the Map and making the other heroes walk out of him like SMRPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. No catepillar system.

This is the mixing and matching of the games which we are trying to do so comment with your ideas too. Thanks

I prefer the dialogue style of the Paper Mario games a bit more then the Mario and Luigi series because I don't like how the majority of the humor in M&L focuses on luigi jokes.

When it comes to dialogue, i'd like it to be humorous, but not humorous enough to make it seem not serious. That's the thing i liked about Fawful, his lines were hilarious, but he still had that main antagonist feeling, and not that joke-character-randomly-put-into-the-game-to-make-people-crack-up sort of feeling.
And the enemies should be a bit more interesting, especially the main antagonist. (major Seven Sages spoilers!)
Spoiler:
I was somewhat dissapointed in the fact that you never fight Wario and Waluigi in Seven Sages. If you pull the same plot twist again, at least have a battle with the "fake main antagonist" in there.
