I am getting my @$$ kicked EVERYWHERE. I have no idea what I am supposed to be doing and the miniboss Dark Hand of Kakariko Mountain keeps killing me.

EDIT:I'm afraid I wasn't clear earlier. I don't know how to access the ability grid AT ALL.

Oh wow its been a while since I have played this but uh, what you should do is stay near link's house and fight the chu chus until you can upgrade everything at least once or twice, rest up at his house when you start to run low on health. And when you are on the mountain I think the chu chu groups are big there, upgrade your attack and use the boomerang if you have it already. And for the first dungeon, lets see if I can remember this, try and move blocks around clear every room of monsters and use the boomerang on the crystal thing whenever you can.
Again, it has been a very long time since I have played this, I don't know if there was an update or not but this is the information I can give hope it helps.

Keep fighting easy enemies,get a lot of AP,and use the big amounts of AP you get and level up Link's stats.

That pretty much sums up what you should do.

I DON'T KNOW HOW TO REACH THE ABILITIY GRID. I'll grind like suggested then.

Another thing you can't go into the ability grid when there is a defeat all enemies floor present.
