Problem is I am limited to rpg maker 2003 out of the ones mentioned in the post which rpg maker to use. I can'
t use xp and vx for two reasons 1. it's not free and 2. my computer won't allow me to install the free trail.

Anyway here is what I want in my game:

Playable characters: mario, luigi, peach, geno, bowser, cackletta, fawful, (if I explain why these two would join, it would ruin the plot) prince peasly (whatever his name was, prince of bean bean kingdom)

When the game starts you would have Mario and luigi, later you get the other character, you can only take four in total for each battle. I want to be able to edit the battle backround, (like taking the backround from the culex battle and putting in a different battle)

I want an enemy that is an internet meme, called weegee. ( basiclyluigi from the original mario is missing)

This game would take place after superstar saga, so I would want a part showing fawful trying to revive cackletta somehow ( I haven't thought how that would work)

Thats all I got right now other than some peices of the plot that might ruin it. So is this possible on rpg maker 2003, or do I need to find another free rpg maker that either dosn't need to be install, or my comp is able to install?

I look at rpg maker 2003, and I have no idea what i'm doing...and its supposed to be easy.

Edit:I just tested game maker 7 lite, and it looks like it works. Should I use it?

It's harder to make an RPG in Gamer Maker, but I don't know how to use it.

You can make a fairly decent Mario RPG in RM2k3 if use our resources. You have to be willing to learn though.

Where are your resourses? I mean I looked at the thread for it, and I didn't find much. Also, I have been messing with rpg maker 2003 for a long time, I'm figuring some things out, but it's taking a while. Like I'm stumped on how you change you character to mario, I got his sprite in BattleCharset, and He dosn't appear on the characters.

Idk if I have the attention span, brain, or determination to learn, but I have been wanting to make a video game for a long time, so all I can say is, I will try.

My advice, start small and familiarize yourself with RPG Maker.
Forget about making a Mario game for now, just focusing on learning the basics.

Alright.

I've looked and looked, but I don't see a way to makes scenes, also not sure how to make sprites appear in battle. Any advise for that?

For a scene, you have a blank event that is triggered by "Auto-Start." Make sure to add a second page that is not auto-start that has a conditional switch "Completed Scene" and make sure the first page turns that switch on at the end.

The sprites that appear in battle are decided by the hero's Battle Character and the enemy's sprite.
