It's been a while since we had an update concerning the battle system, so I felt like this one deserved it's own thread.
I'd like to introduce Boss Desperation Moves!
What are they, you ask? Well, during a boss fight, when the boss has less then 50% HP, he will become desperate. What this means is that every so often at the end of the round (turn) the boss will attempt to get a second hit in. An anger emoticon will pop above his head, and then a surprise emoticon over the hero or heroes that it's targeting. You have a small window of time after the second emoticon pops up (the one over the hero's head) to press the "A" button. If you fail, the boss attacks you. If you succeed, you're off the hook.
Essentially, it's Action Commands for defense. Like said earlier, this only happens when the boss is low on HP. Also, the timing window to ward off the attack changes depending on the boss and how powerful the move is. There will also be different methods of timing for different bosses too. At this point, we've added the feature to the Mega Goomba from the demo, and will add it to other bosses as well.

It's nice to see you managed to squeeze in a way for dodge moves after all. Like I said earlier, their part of what makes Mario RPG's great.

When I read this I thought you were talking about the bargaining the Dragon in TTYD did. XD

You know, reading it over, you should put in that some dodges give you a chance to actualy hurt the boss(otherwise, it would be just like a regular guard). Those would have to be more difficult of course.
