Well you seem to picture the same battle system I was, but in RM2k3, mine's just like that, but in Vx. I'll put up a video of a test of the ability system once I arrange the graphics for the Beam Kirby charset.

Also, how many absorbing characters are there going to be in your game? Is it just Kirby or will other characters be able to power up?

Legend of Kirby has two characters like that.

I think the more difficult part is "How do I attack this guy and get his power." kind of thing.

All you'd need to do is at the beginning of the battle, set a var for the id of the power that each enemy gives you, as in Enemy 1's Power, Enemy 2's Power, Enemy 3's Power...etc

Then, make a battle page for when Kirby uses the Copy "Battle Command" (you can make a Copy Skill that goes in that command too), and then fork conditions for if Kirby is targeting monster 1. Set "Power to Gain" var to the value of Enemy 1's Power. If Kirby is targeting enemy 2, Set "Power to Gain" var to the value of Enemy 2's Power, etc. Than call the common event.
