This is a piece of artwork for the upcoming game, Super Mario RPG: The Starlite Worlds.
Each major area in the game will have a image like this to represent it.

When you access the map from the menu. There will be a "Current Area Map" which will show something like the first post. Then there will be a "Global Map" Which will be like the second image, but filled with a bunch of different icons.

No, I just used the MKC icon twice because it was just a mock up and it's the only one i have so far..

Not really... that's just for stylistic purposes.
